Welcome to the May One NHS Finance blog. Here you will find out all the highlights of our programmes and networks over that last month and discover all the opportunities and everything else coming up in the month ahead.
Important Upcoming Updates You Should Know
Applications are now open for the following Career Development Programmes: Career Shapers (Band 2-4), Going Beyond (Band 8c or above) and Accelerate! (Deputy Finance Directors). Deadline to apply June 30, 2023.
We are excited to announce that the One NHS Finance Summit: Live Stream Edition is being live-streamed over two days on July 6 – 7 and you can book your place now! Find out more and book your place here.
Networks
Last month we had 61 new network sign-ups and 11 network meetings, this included the National Disabilities Network meeting where lots of progress was made with the action plan for the network being finalised.
Sponsors on The Sponsorship Programme had the opportunity to attend our training event specifically aimed at them, this included some theory and discussion, sharing of experience and provided opportunities to practice tools and techniques. Look out for more Sponsor training dates coming up!
This month members of the Finance Leaders Network had the opportunity to hear from Jenny Ehrhardt, Chief Finance Officer at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Finance Innovation Forum Chair. Jenny provided an engaging insight into her NHS finance career journey – Thank you Jenny!
Our first ever LGBTQIA+ national network meeting will take place this month on the 10th, we are excited to welcome this new network to the One NHS finance community. We will also be finalising all applications to take place in the London Pride Parade on July 1st, you can still register your interest here.
Health & Wellbeing Champions – Don’t forget that it is Mental Health Awareness Week May 15 – 21, this year’s theme is anxiety and we have a special wellbeing webinar on May 17: Dialling Down Anxiety, please share this with your colleagues.
Programmes
Two new animations have been published on behalf of the Future-Focused Finance Demystifying NHS Finance programme: NHS finance explained: How money flows in the NHS 2023 Update and Costing for Mental Health Services in the NHS England. These useful videos will be beneficial to non-Finance staff, so please share them with your colleagues.
We had an influx of requests for mock interviews, thank you for getting in touch and we hope these interviews will help give you the support you need!
The Finance Innnovation Forum has launched the NHS Efficiency Exchange, this platform enables NHS organisations to share free-form efficiency ideas and projects at the local, regional, and national level.
23 NHS Finance Innovations from Cohort 5 will be published in the NHS Finance Innovation Library by May 9. Don’t forget that you can ask the innovators questions and leave comments, don’t be shy!
Coming up on May 30 – June 2 on the NHS Finance Careers Website we have our first-ever half-term livestream events week. This initiative aims to encourage students to consider a career in NHS finance, we invite you to share this with family and friends.
