June 2024 One NHS Finance Team Updates

Welcome to the June One NHS Finance blog. Here you will find all the highlights of our programmes and networks over that last month and discover all the opportunities and everything else coming up in the month ahead.

Networks

Last month five regional Value Maker meetings took place with updates on the latest regional opportunities, sharing best practices within the workplace and any other areas of business, if you are a Value Maker and would like to join your next regional meeting, head to your regional Value Maker web page here: Value Maker Regional Networks (onenhsfinance.nhs.uk). June marks the 10th anniversary of the Value Maker Network, we will be sharing blogs from members of the founding cohort and look out for a special celebratory newsletter this month.

Health and Wellbeing Champions had a training session last month, these have been very popular and look out for more training dates later on in the year. Thank you to the team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust for sharing health and wellbeing best practices to ensure all colleagues are motivated and supported.

We also had over 100 of you join the NHS Finance Inclusion Conference, some thought-provoking discussions took place on the subject of ageism, and we would like to thank all the speakers who joined us to share their experiences.

This month, our Power Automate and Power BI Software Skills event is now fully booked, as this was so popular we will be aiming to put another session on so keep an eye on our events page.

We are excited to announce that we have just launched a new network! The National Cultural Diversity Matters Network aims to encourage inclusion by celebrating our differences, raising awareness and educating. Get involved and make a difference today.

On June 26th we have 2 showcase sessions; one Inclusion & Diversity session on the journey of setting up a Disability Staff Network presented by NHS Midlands and Lancashire CSU colleagues and the other is a FACE session delivered by Barts Health NHS Trust on how they re-engage with their clinicians, managers and leaders within the organisation on the subject of finance.

Programmes

We want to confirm that all Towards Excellence Accreditation recent applications have been received and these will be put forward to the Finance Leadership Council for approval, well done to everyone for all your hard work. 

Thank you to everyone who submitted their recent development programme applications, we will be in touch shortly with the outcomes. As mentioned above, applications are now open for The Going Beyond Programme, please apply by June 30th.

All 26 NHS Finance Innovations from Cohort 8 of the Innovation Programme have now been published, you can read them in the Innovation Library. Thank you to everyone who was involved.

This month, we are proud to announce that the 2023-24 One NHS Finance Annual Review has been published! Over the past year, the One NHS Finance programme has continued to work to support and develop the NHS finance community and made great progress in achieving the ambitions set out in the National Finance Development Strategy. Thank you for your continued support of our programme, and we look forward to working together to achieve even greater success in the future.

Lastly, through the FFF and NFA programmes, a new strategy to support recruitment and retention has been launched. The strategy aims to transform how we attract and retain talent within our finance teams and addresses critical challenges such as inconsistent recruitment approaches and unfilled vacancies, with a clear vision to make the NHS the number one employer for finance careers.
