The South West Finance Academy is a stand alone body that supports training and development across the region. We are here to give everyone in the South West a chance to learn and grow together through our inclusive training and development opportunities. The South West Finance Academy is responsible for ensuring a tailored approach to finance skills training, development and networking. We work to bring together all delivery partners.
Our three key aims are:
- Developing our People – promoting NHS finance as a career, nurture talent and support growth in finance, innovation and leadership skills.
- Networking – increase the networking, sharing and collaboration opportunities across the region, and focusing on the health and wellbeing of our staff.
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – ensuring that there is equality, diversity and inclusion in organisational culture and career development, as well as in recruitment.

South West Finance Leadership Executive
The South West Finance Leadership Executive are responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of the South West Finance Academy and ensuring the regional roll-out of all relevant training and opportunities for NHS Finance staff across the region. Meet them below!
Sarah Brampton
Sarah is the Chief Finance Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and is the Chair of the South West Finance Academy. She is also the South West’s representative for the Women in Leadership forum.
Simon Truelove
Simon is the Chief Finance Officer at Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and the Vice-Chair of the South West Finance Academy. He is also the South West’s representative for the Future Focused Finance board.
Johanne Bogle
Johanna is the Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is also the South West’s representative for the Finance Innovation Forum.
Pete Papworth
Pete is the Chief Finance Officer at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.
Andrew Rosser
Andrew is the Executive Director of Finance and Infrastructure at South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
Cath Leech
Cath is the Chief Finance Officer at Gloucestershire ICB.
Libby Walters
Libby is the Director of Financial Improvement at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. She is also the South West’s representative for the National Finance Academy.
Michael Gravelle
Michael is the Deputy Director of Finance – Strategy, Estates and Capital at Dorset ICB.
Richard Lake
Richard is the Deputy Director of Finance at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Ian Dean
Ian is the Chief Finance Officer at Royal Cornwall NHS Foundation Trust.
Jeff Buggle
Jeff is the Regional Director of Finance at NHS England – South West.
Linzi Holden
Linzi is the Director of Operational Finance at NHS England – South West.
Alison Henly
Alison is the Chief Finance Officer at both NHS Somerset ICB and NHS Dorset ICB.
John Ridler
John is the Associate Director of Finance at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Karen Jarvill
Karen is Associate Director of Finance at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. She also chairs the South West’s Inclusion and Diversity Ambassador network and leads on this.
Katrina Napthine
Katrina is the Senior Operational Finance Manager at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.
James Corrigan
