Forge a more inclusive world

Inspire our male colleagues to get involved in tackling the inclusion challenge.

“The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is #InspireInclusion, aiming to forge a more inclusive world for women. As Hannah talked about in last year’s blog, the proportion of women in senior roles within the finance community is low. For this reason we need to inspire our male colleagues to get involved in tackling the inclusion challenge.

The gender equality programme has delivered a lot of great work already. You can view some of the programmes resources here, including our new Gender Equality action plan (to be published 8 March) which will continue to take this work forward. Our Male Allies group has made significant progress with hearing women’s stories and are considering how we take action to improve the world of NHS finance for our female staff. Recently, the National Women in Leadership for NHS Finance network held a webinar with some of our male CFOs talking about how sharing caring responsibilities is key for gaining gender equality in the workplace. You can watch a recording of that webinar here.

We know from feedback from some of our male colleagues that they don’t know how to help, or are scared of doing the wrong thing. For this reason I’d encourage you to open up conversations within your organisations on how to encourage male allyship. For this International Women’s Day call them in, rather than out to #InspireInclusion. Their participation and leadership on this journey will be key.

#InspireInclusion #IWD2024”.
