Reflections: One NHS Finance Summit
On July 6th and 7th 2023, we held the very first One NHS Finance Summit, both in-person and online. The event brought together Chief Finance Officers from various regions and virtual attendees from the finance community. The purpose was to share and celebrate the achievements of ONF programmes since launching nearly two years ago, as well as to exchange insights on the current challenges faced by finance leaders and their teams within the NHS.
Over the two days, the summit featured sessions from Julian Kelly, Deputy CEO and CFO, NHS England, the One NHS Finance programme leads and volunteers, as well as guest speakers from the NHS and commercial sector. These sessions highlighted the progress made through the three ONF programmes: Future-Focused Finance, The Finance Innovation Forum, and The National Finance Academy, showcased innovations from across NHS finance departments, and shared insight into ways of working from outside the NHS. Additionally, exciting new initiatives were unveiled, including the EVO (Engagement, Value, Outcome) Framework and an inclusive Talent Management Strategy and Framework for NHS finance.
The event also set the launch of the second One NHS Finance online conversation “Shape the Future” which invites the whole finance community to log-on to share their views, insights, feedback, and challenges regarding the NHS finance function and its current training and development opportunities. We were thrilled to witness a strong presence of leaders attending the event in-person, demonstrating their support for our programmes and their teams. It was also fantastic to see so many online delegates tune-in to the live stream and engage with sessions through the Slido app, posing questions and sharing comments.
