Last month was Mental Health Awareness Week. Did you catch our special Health & Wellbeing newsletter? If you missed it, you can read it here. The Health & Wellbeing Champion Network recently published a new resource guide on everything you need to know about becoming a H&W Champion. Champions help to make a real difference by being present, proactive, and passionate; they help ensure NHS finance is a place where people feel valued and supported.
We had many regional Value Maker meetings last month, which involved sharing good practice and insights into the NHS staff survey. We are also very excited to announce that VMAC has officially been confirmed to take place in London on November 19! We hope to see many of you there, book your free place here.
This month we have another wellbeing webinar taking place, this eye-opening master class on June 9, will focus on the harmful effects of abnormal blood sugar levels and how to take control of your wellbeing. Register here: H&W Webinar: The not so sweet facts of blood sugar.
June is NHS Pride Season! Pride Season celebrates LGBTQ+ people in all their diversity, raises awareness, and combats prejudice with education. Join a showcase session from The National Rainbow Network on June 20, 2-3 PM, about the importance of allyship and how we can all play a role in creating an inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals. This session will explore key definitions, the historical and political background of LGBTQ+ rights, and the impact of allyship on patient and staff experiences. The FACE network is holding a webinar on how Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust have revamped the Budget Holder Training programme, designed to be more engaging and interactive. Launched last year, this new approach moves away from traditional methods to create a more dynamic learning experience. Last month, we opened the NHS Finance Talent Management Strategy Impact Survey Follow up (May 2025), thank you to everyone who has completed the survey; we have had over 550 responses! The team is pleased to announce that the One NHS Finance Annual Review 2024-25 has now been published! Thank you to everyone who has supported the programme. We want to better understand how appraisals are currently experienced across the finance community, and how they can better support your learning and development. We are therefore after your honest and constructive feedback anonymously, so we can identify areas for improvement and share any good practice. Please take the survey by June 30 here.
Congratulations to all those who have recently been awarded Towards Excellence Accreditation, we are delighted that 90% of trusts and ICBs are now accredited to at least Level 1! This month, taking place on June 17, 10:00 – 11:00, you will hear from colleagues from Bolton FT and Stockport FT who have both recently been through the Level 3 re-accreditation process. Achieving Level 3 accreditation is a milestone, and only 22 finance departments have achieved it—but sustaining it requires ongoing commitment. The Sponsorship Programme needs more Sponsors to sign up. By participating, you will not only help others achieve their career aspirations but also gain invaluable insights about yourself. Learn more about becoming a Sponsor here. We are delighted to announce that The Sponsorship Summit will be taking place again this year. Join us in London on September 23, the summit is a chance to reflect on the impact of sponsorship, share real stories, and explore how we can all support and champion diverse talent across the NHS. Whether you’re an experienced sponsor, a current sponsee, or wanting to learn more about the programme, this event is for you.
We are pleased to announce that a new programme has been launched: The Empowering Women in Leadership Programme supports NHS finance professionals band 8a and above who are women and would like to advance their careers to more senior roles. Applications for the programme are now open and will close on Friday, 11th July 2025.
The Innovation Forum is delighted to unveil two home-grown AI assistants coming this month. The Librarian guides NHS finance teams through the Innovation Library to uncover fresh ideas. The Assistant supports Software Skills Network members in mastering new software tools. Stay tuned—more specialised assistants are on the way!
Also taking place this month is another Innovation Showcase, Cathy Kennedy, Director of Operational Finance at NHS England – North East and Yorkshire, joins us to showcase their innovation on creating an equality, diversity and inclusion calendar which was published as part of Cohort 10 of the Innovation Programme. The session will explore how the calendar has led to practical changes, such as more inclusive recruitment practices and shifts in team culture.
