Sustainable Efficiency Tracker

Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, Midlands, Acute

The problem

The finance team’s spreadsheet for tracking cost improvement scheme delivery lacked detailed information such as targets and forecasts, leading to inconsistency in reporting. The system needed to be updated to provide more comprehensive data and remove non-value adding items to ensure consistent and accurate reporting across internal and external sources.

The challenge

How might we design a single input spreadsheet that is easy to populate by the financial management team, to enable standard reporting to different stakeholder requirements ensuring the cost improvement programme is reported consistently.

The outputs

  • A single source of CIP tracking.
  • A consistent inputting methodology for all schemes.
  • A consistent reporting out for different stakeholders.
  • A sustainable means of capturing CIP delivery across the Trust at divisional and scheme level.

The outcomes

  • Wider appreciation across the financial management team of CIP reporting to various stakeholders.
  • An understanding that scheme tracking required a consistent approach.
