Focus on reducing taxi spend across the trust

The problem

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust needs to reduce trust-wide taxi expenditure because otherwise this will have a significant impact on the trust delivering the waste reduction programme and its cost improvement plan.

The challenge 

How might we highlight the current level of taxi usage and resulting expenditure so that usage is in line with policy and expenditure is reduced to acceptable levels?

The outputs

The tangible products that came from implementation of our innovation were:

  • the Trust wide taxi spend dashboard made available to all budget holders and
  • waste reduction for cost improvement programme (CIP) target holders.

The outcomes

The benefits to the trust as a result of the innovation implemented were:

  1. Immediate access to up to date and valid information on taxi usage
  2. Clarity on usage trends, patterns and behaviours.
  3. Allowing clinical and corporate business units to swiftly and effectively make decisions and take action.
  4. Providing at-a-glance visibility
  5. Saving time and resources on digging out taxi spend information in budget reports
  6. Improving management decision-making relating to taxi spend in line with policy
