South West Interview Skills Sessions

The Interview Skills Sessions are a one hour MS Teams session with a HFMA coach. These sessions are designed to prepare you for an interview in NHS finance, equipping you with the necessary skills to excel in the interview.

What does this session cover?

• Preparing for the interview, including discussing the formal interview, presentation and focus group as applicable.
• Considering what research to do in advance of an interview e.g. research on the organisation, its culture and the role.
• Preparing a few scenario type answers to behavioural interview questions.
• Practicing how to answer difficult “mock” interview questions linked to the job description and person specification.
• Discussing and responding to questions about personal strengths and weaknesses.
• Receiving feedback on their answers and how they delivered them – content, voice and body language.
• Final questions to ask the interviewer.
• Responding to feedback after the interview.

Terms and conditions:

• This is only open to colleagues applying for roles in NHS finance and remaining in the South West. You must send the job description of the role you are interviewing for and any supporting material across to your coach, ahead of your session.
• Due to the fast pace nature needed to prepare for an interview, these sessions are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
• Applications for these sessions are approved by the Programme Manager of the South West Finance Academy.

How do I apply?

• Send an email to charley.spicer@hfma.org.uk containing a paragraph explaining the role you’re applying to, when the interview is taking place, and the job description of the role you have been offered an interview for. You will then be put in touch with a HFMA coach to discuss availability.
