What benefits did attending this year’s conference have for you and your development?
Talking to the different vendors. Being in finance, this is a rare opportunity, as we usually only see the invoice at the end of it. Seeing how things work in action and linking it to the finance flows was a great learning opportunity. The vendors had very creative styles in delivering information, I particularly enjoyed the crossword at the end of the newspaper edit from Liaison Group, and the demonstration of how omnicell’s work in action.
What were the three most valuable insights or lessons you took away from the event?
Building confidence. Networking doesn’t come easy to some people, so this was a great way to break some barriers and talk to as many people as you can. Everyone was really friendly and willing to talk which made things easier.
How did the conference help you build or strengthen your professional network?
Having the senior finance buddy was the biggest benefit. My buddy introduced me to so many people in his network and It was easier to network and remember people’s names because everyone was wearing lanyards. In large crowds it’s easy to not hear people introduce themselves, but the lanyards made that so much easier. Spending time with the other winners, having the drinks reception, created a strong bond between the winners and this conference will love long in my memory.
How likely are you to recommend this opportunity to colleagues, and why?
Already have. I have given updates to colleagues, in my small finance team meetings as well as my wider finance team meeting (over 200 people) at the Trust. I spoke about the fantastic opportunity and how it was a valuable experience, full of learning, networking and inspiration. I came away from the conference feeling very energised and passionate about working for the NHS.
Any other comments?
Just want to say thank you again for the amazing opportunity. Not all Trusts are able to purchase tickets for staff with constant financial constraints, so I highly appreciated the opportunity to attend.
