Secondments and similar opportunities such as job swaps and shadowing are a vital mechanism to grow our own, fill vacancies with high calibre candidates and retain staff within the NHS whilst nurturing their development and career aspirations.

The normalisation of remote working following the pandemic has created an environment even more suitable to secondments, where placements can be made across systems and even between regions in addition to local opportunities and internal secondments.

Advertising secondment opportunities

Adverts can be submitted and will then be posted by the Academy across the following platforms:

• Inside Midlands Microsoft Teams channel
• HFMA jobs board, which is also linked to the NHS finance careers website
• Skills Development Network vacancy portal

Central secondments database

When adverts are submitted to the Academy they are stored on a central secondments database and are tracked in terms of posts filled and vacancies still open.

Expressions of interest secondment directory

NHS finance staff can register themselves as interested in hearing about secondment opportunities in the Midlands. Any adverts submitted to the Academy for secondment posts will be circulated directly to the EOI secondment directory as well.

The EOI directory can also be used to advertise substantive opportunities when someone on secondment is not returning to their original post.
