Our ultimate aim with the Educational Outreach Project is to provide students – the future workforce – with an insight into a career in NHS Finance.
The purpose of these lessons is to simply promote a career in NHS Finance. The Skills Development Network in the North East and Yorkshire region have designed two full one-hour lessons which are intended to be delivered in a school or college.
Both lesson packs contain all of the additional resources needed to present and deliver the lessons successfully. Please download the 2 lessons and supporting materials below.
The lessons created so far are:

One-hour Lesson on Purchasing for the NHS
Combining Finance and Procurement – Students will work in groups of four and have been tasked with purchasing four items for different departments within the hospital. They will have to work together to ensure all items are purchased within budget and participants are required to respond and reconsider their decisions when an increase in all prices is announced. This lesson is intended to be delivered to GCSE students in years 10 and 11.

One-Hour Lesson on Managing an NHS Budget
In groups of five, participants are required to purchase a number of items and decide who carries out a number of repairs with the hospital. Half way through this assignment, three additional issues are raised and each group needs to rectify them and ensure they remain in budget. This lesson is intended to be delivered to GCSE students in year 11 as well as students who are attending college.
